HAYDN DICKENSON took early lessons with Dorothy Schneider, a pupil of the influential Tobias Matthay, and with Isabel Beyer, half of the renowned Beyer-Dagul Piano Duo. Later he studied with the distinguished Royal Academy of Music Professor, Guy Jonson. During the 1990's Haydn worked intensively in London with the renowned Pianist, Composer and Pedagogue Peter Feuchtwanger, who became his principal influence and mentor, and in whose legendary International Masterclasses he assisted.
Haydn has received critical acclaim across the UK and Europe for the intensity and conviction of his performances of a wide repertoire. In his programmes, seldom-heard pieces by recognised as well as lesser-known Masters regularly feature alongside more familiar compositions, as does the Contemporary repertoire which he enthusiastically champions.
Passionate about New Music, Haydn has collaborated closely with many notable composers. Recently he has introduced pieces by Robert Coleridge, John White, Hugh Shrapnel, John Lewis, Hans G Leonhardt, Eric Schwartz, Claus Gahrn and Lars Bagger.
It is with the compositions of his mentor Peter Feuchtwanger that Haydn has become most associated. Feuchtwanger's evocative Piano Works, influenced by Eastern Folk and Art Music, have recently been recorded by him, for the first time complete, on the Music Chamber label. Entitled EAST, the CD was released to acclaim in London in May 2006. Haydn's performances of Feuchtwanger's music have been described in the Music Press as “revelations of supreme pianistic virtuosity”, and “piano playing of great subtlety”.
Haydn has performed in France, Germany, Switzerland, the Slovak Republic, Bulgaria and across the UK. During Spring 2008 he will perform in Denmark and Bulgaria. His performances have been featured on French, German, Swedish, Slovak and UK radio networks and Bulgarian television. In August 2007 two tracks from Haydn's CD EAST were featured on BBC Radio 3's path-finding Progressive Music broadcast, LATE JUNCTION. One of these was used as part of Radio 3's commemoration of Indian Independence Day on August 15th. On October 1st, tracks from EAST were used in a BBC Panorama programme, HOW I BECAME A MUSLIM EXTREMIST.
